General Information

IWP is used as an abbreviation for the Intelligent Water Project.

The current state of infrastructure in rural zones of Sub-Saharan Africa creates logistical difficulties that hinder agencies from collecting data that is critical to successful planning and implementation of water management activities. In order to begin overcoming these difficulties, IWP is partnering with World Vision, a leading Christian non-government organization, to transform traditional hand pump installations into an Intelligent Water Project.

The Intelligent Water Project aims to complete its mission by installing pump monitoring devices within fresh water pumps across the African continent. These devices will be used to monitor the operational status of the pumps they are installed in so that the access that local residents have to clean water is not interrupted by mechanical failure of the pumps.

The Intelligent Water Project is looking to install the first of its pump monitoring devices in the summer of 2014.
